Abu Dhabi Airports has been awarded the globally recognised Corporate Certification from the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) in recognition of its procurement department’s world-class standards of efficiency and effectiveness.

The CIPS Corporate Certification is designed and delivered by globally leading procurement experts to ensure effective governance for procurement and supply assurance and compliance and is the only independent, comprehensive and procurement-specific assessment of its kind.

David Noble, Group CEO, CIPS, presented the certificate during a ceremony at Abu Dhabi Airports’ headquarters today and said “To achieve CIPS Corporate Certification, a company must clearly demonstrate outstanding performance across our assessment dimensions which ensure key enablers are in place for effective governance. The procurement team at Abu Dhabi Airports have worked hard to put in place a robust practice that has raised the standards in the local industry, and through the CIPS Corporate Certification, the team has reinforced their credibility and can continue to build stronger and more constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.”

The assessment dimensions used to evaluate corporate procurement practices include leadership and organization, strategy, people, processing and systems, and performance measurement and management.

Abdul Majeed Khoori, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Airports, commented: “By achieving CIPS certification, an internationally recognized award, the company has demonstrated that it has all the procurement governance mechanisms in place for effective supply assurance and compliance, delivering efficient control over expenditure and positioning Abu Dhabi Airports as one of the world’s leading airport groups.”

CIPS has worked closely with various leaders in the UAE aviation industry in efforts to enhance the standards of procurement and supply practices. Most recently, the institute announced a voluntary licence agreement with Etihad Airways Group to be adopted across the group’s procurement and supply department.

82% of higher management are UAE nationals

Abu Dhabi Airports has announced that it has exceeded its targets for Emiratization in 2015 with 50% of its workforce now UAE nationals. Moreover, the number of Emiratis in higher management positions at Abu Dhabi Airports has reached 82%. The announcement came on the sidelines of Tawdheef, the leading recruitment event for UAE nationals, held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development

Abu Dhabi Airports remains committed to Emiratiszation and its objective to be an employer of choice for Emiratis and has developed its National Development Program (NDP) for employing and training UAE graduates.  The program is delivered over an 18 – 24 month period and focuses on enabling candidates to obtain practical experience and occupational skills. This is done by placing them in various departments and monitoring their progress through a structured assessment system.
“We see the future of the aviation industry as tied to the future of the nation, and are committed to support the growth of both,” said H.E. Ali Majed Al Mansoori, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Airports. “Aviation will play a significant role in the diversification of the economy, as outlined in Abu Dhabi’s Economic Vision 2030. It is therefore imperative to develop national expertise within the industry to deliver sustainable growth.”

A total of 86 UAE nationals enrolled in the NDP in 2015, and 35 of them have now been confirmed as permanent employees of Abu Dhabi Airports. In addition, since the launch of Abu Dhabi Airports’ Stipend Program in 2013, 63 students have enrolled in various universities and colleges across Abu Dhabi, with the objective of employing them in the company upon graduation.
Emiratization is one of the distinguishing features of Abu Dhabi Airports’ sustainable growth and development plan and the recruitment and retention of UAE National talent is integral to the company’s success.

23.3 million passengers passed through the capital’s airport in 2015

Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) achieved record traffic figures in 2015, with more than 23 million passengers passing through its terminals, according to annual results released today. For the first time in its history the airport crossed the two million passengers a month mark, with its four busiest periods ever in July, August, September and December.

Overall, AUH experienced a 17.2% increase in passenger traffic compared to 2014, with the first quarter alone showing 21.1% growth.  Eng. Ahmad Al Haddabi, Chief Operations Officer at Abu Dhabi Airports, said: “We continue to witness double digit traffic growth at Abu Dhabi International Airport. To cross the two million mark for the first time in our history, for four months of the year, is a testament to the airport’s ability to connect the world.”

“During the first quarter we opened expanded facilities in Terminal 1, part of a broader capacity enhancement program, to ensure that passengers using Abu Dhabi International Airport will always enjoy a world class experience.”

A large proportion of the increase in traffic can be attributed to the strong performance of Etihad Airways, which serves 116 passenger and cargo destinations around the world. The national airline of the UAE carried 17.4 million passengers in 2015, 18.4% more than in 2014. The expansion of its network through Alitalia and Jet Airways contributed to passenger figures to Italy, India and the USA, increasing by double digits.
With these and other new services, the airport saw an additional 271 flights per week to various destinations during the summer.

“Etihad Airways contributed significantly to these traffic figures as more than 74% of the total passengers to and from Abu Dhabi International Airport in 2015 were carried by our national airline,” added Eng. Al Haddabi.

Aircraft movements went up by 11.6% in 2015 in comparison to 2014. Last year there were 172,819 movements compared to 154,821 in 2014.
December was the second busiest month in 2015, recording more than 2.1 million passengers, following August, which saw more than 2.5 million passengers traveling through the UAE capital.

Traffic between Abu Dhabi and the USA surged by 39.4% last year with the launch of several new direct Etihad services. The airline’s introduction of state of the art Airbus A380s on its Abu Dhabi to London Heathrow route helped to deliver a strong increase in passengers to the UK, with 27.5% growth registered in 2015. Other busy routes from AUH included Australia, up 30%, and Germany, up 15%.

The strongest five country destinations in 2015 were: India, the UK, Germany, Saudi Arabia and the USA, which together recorded more than 9 million passengers through AUH last year.

In 2015, Abu Dhabi International Airport handled 827,456 metric tons of cargo, up 3.8% from 2014’s figures of 797,069.
